ALTIDOR D/S


Cefixime trihydrate belongs to the third-generation class. Cefixime is used mainly for bacterial infections. Some penicillin and cephalosporins develop resistance against bacteria because of presence of beta-lactamase enzyme so cefixime is effective against this enzyme.

  • Community acquired pneumonia

Mechanism of action-

Cefixime binds to penicillin binding protein present in the cell wall and prevents cell wall synthesis by inhibiting the crosslinking of proteins i.e. NAM and NAG.

Absorption- It is absorbed orally
Protein Binding- It is 65% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism- It is metabolized in the liver
Excretion- It is excreted via urine

Precaution-

Stop using it if causes severe diarrhoea
